The Howitzer imitates the head of a small minnow (or baitfish) that is splashing and sipping at the surface of the water. It's designed with a deep recess at the back of the head so that an articulated body and tail of a minnow can be embedded seamlessly into the back of the head. This medium-long, exceptionally shiny, and durable hair has been a staple for decades. It's particularly well-suited for sparsely dressed medium and small flies, zonkers, or especially for shrimp legs and tentacles. Frodin uses Angel Hair in almost all its fly creations today. In the smallest flies merely one or two strands of Angel Hair as the only flash element. In the bigger flies they mix Angel Hair and natural hair to create an optimal and appetizing mix. Angel Hair was a god sent gift for Frodin fly designs. Frodin has often made its own mixtures, color combinations to harmonize well with our patterns. -
The SSS braids comes in a quality which makes it perfect for all forms of bodies and ribbings. It is not too thick to overlap or to be twisted. In my own fly tying I only use this one quality. If you need a ribbing then use the same material but twine it into a round or oval form. The harder you twist the smaller flies it fits. -
