These small tufts make realistic wings on smaller flies, size 14-26. They also are advantageous for emerging midge patterns when you want that vulnerable suspension effect in the surface film. These large spey feathers are made from 3" to 5" goose coquille feathers which are specially processed to create a particularly spiky, long fibered feather. This "burning" process is tricky business, but we get good results and many of our dealers sell a ton of this product with a high level of customer satisfaction. In our search for the best materials possible we found a fantastic source for small, selected ostrich body feathers – the best we have seen. They are perfect for hackling big and medium flies and ideal for all kinds of Butterfly style flies. Most are perfect the way they are, and some will be after a bit of steam. We doubt there are any hackles that will swim the way good ostrich hackles do. -
One of the best CDC's on the market, highest quality feathers, hand selected, dyed cold, and carefully packed by our incredible girls. Dyed Feathers are from 4 to 6 cm and are mainly used for dubbing (using the clamp tool) or tying big wings like mayflies. All colours are dyed over natural white cdc, we do not bleach them! Ever since Mikael pioneered the use of these highly mobile feathers in salmon flies back in the late 80s, we've been struck by the way these hackles move and enhance the performance of the fly.
